As culturas indígenas são a base da identidade amazônica. Primeiros habitantes e guardiões da terra, os povos da região dominam técnicas, artes e conhecimentos milenares, que seguem amplamente desqualificados e ignorados pela sociedade. Cuidar da Amazônia e de sua biodiversidade passa por conhecer, valorizar e aprender com os saberes e fazeres ancestrais que permanecem atuais e ajudam a conservar a floresta em pé.

Há 16 anos, a FAS desenvolve e apoia projetos que reforçam os valores culturais dos povos originários. Criado pela instituição, o Projeto Arquearia Indígena treina jovens em comunidades e Terras Indígenas (TIs) da região exercitar o arco e flecha como uma modalidade esportiva. O esporte é um caminho para as atuais gerações se reconectarem ou se aprofundarem em uma tradição e uma fonte de autoestima e orgulho, na contramão do esquecimento.

Instrumento polivalente, que serve desde as tarefas correntes da caça e da pesca, até fins religiosos e de proteção, nas mãos da juventude indígena, o arco e flecha ganham novos significados e revelam talentos, como os de Graziela Yaci Santos. Em 2019, a atleta da etnia Karapanã entrou para a história como a primeira indígena da história o Brasil no Tiro com Arco (nome oficial do esporte) em um Pan- Americano.

Participante do projeto desde 2014, Graziela foi preparada por profissionais da Federação Amazonense de Arco e recebeu apoio para disputar competições regionais, nacionais e internacionais. Dentre elas, os Jogos Sul-Americanos de 2018, na Bolívia, no qual foi medalhista de ouro duas vezes, e o Grand Prix do México, que lhe rendeu uma medalha de prata.

Desde a última Olimpíadas, a atleta é cotada para representar o Brasil nos Jogos Olímpicos de Paris, mas a conquista da vaga parcial veio no último mês de outubro, durante a Seletiva Adulta Recurvo 2024, realizada em Maricá, no Rio de Janeiro, pela Confederação Brasileira de Tiro com Arco (CBTARCO). Os mais de 600 pontos conquistados na seletiva renderam à atleta o 3º lugar e a oportunidade de compor a Seleção Brasileira que vai em busca de uma vaga nas Olimpíadas de Paris.

Também pertencente ao povo Karapanã, Gustavo Santos é mais um atleta revelado pela Arquearia Indígena. Em 2022, o jovem de 25 anos que acumula medalhas em torneios da categoria foi convocado para a Seleção Brasileira de Tiro com Arco. “A FAS é uma das minhas principais parceiras. Foram eles que acreditaram na gente e nos mandaram às competições, mesmo quando tínhamos um nível baixo, competíamos e não ganhávamos nada”, recorda o atleta.

Em uma década de vigência do projeto, a Arquearia Indígena apoiou 37 atletas, que participaram de 21 competições e ganharam 53 medalhas, sendo 34 nacionais e 19 internacionais. Do total, 20 foram medalhas de ouro, 17 de prata e 16 de bronze. O projeto conta com a parceria da Federação Amazonense de Tiro com Arco (Fatarco).

Uma das principais metas do projeto é construir o Centro de Treinamento de Arco e Flecha na comunidade Nova Kuanã, dentro da Reserva de Desenvolvimento Sustentável Puranga Conquista, no baixo Rio Negro. De acordo com a supervisora de Agenda Indígena, Rosa dos Anjos, é simbólico e estratégico construir um espaço profissional de treinamento dentro de uma comunidade indígena, pois facilita a logística e os deixa próximos às suas tradições e famílias.

“A FAS atua nas comunidades dando voz às populações tradicionais, buscando saber quais as suas necessidades, antes de iniciarmos um projeto em qualquer lugar. E a proposta de construir o centro de treinamento dentro da comunidade indígena é um desses pedidos dos próprios atletas. Lá, eles estão próximos aos seus familiares, têm contato com a natureza, seus costumes. Além, é claro, de não precisarem se deslocar para a capital para treinar, o que gera custos que nem sempre eles conseguem manter”, explica Rosa.

Atleta modelo do projeto de Arquearia Indígena, Graziela Santos comenta sobre a importância de ter um Centro de Treinamento na região das comunidades e aldeias do Rio Negro. “A construção do Centro de Treinamento na comunidade vai ajudar no dia a dia porque os atletas vão estar treinando perto de suas famílias ou poderão vir de outras comunidades e treinarem em um lugar parecido com o que foi criado, já conhece aquele ambiente. Vai poder comer as mesmas coisas, não vai ter o choque de realidade de morar numa cidade grande, sair de uma pequena aldeia ou comunidade pra morar numa cidade grande. E sem falar que vai estar num lugar tranquilo, vai estar num lugar cheio de floresta, cheio de rio. É uma oportunidade pra gente”.

A FAS fortalece as tradições culturais da Amazônia e incentiva a prática de esportes regionais com projetos de canoagem e arquearia indígena. 105 atletas indígenas já foram apoiados pela fundação e ganharam 54 medalhas em 22 campeonatos desportivos.
